Senior Research Scientist (Packaging and Test)

Summary:

This position is responsible for the development and improvement of packaging and testing for LED products. The successful candidate will be a resourceful, hands-on, problem solver with the capacity to quickly grasp and resolve a wide range of technical problems while managing multiple development efforts. The person should thrive in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented atmosphere. It is expected that this individual has the education, desire, and ability to become a technical leader in the organization.
 

Shift: 1st Shift + One Weekend Day (Tues-Sat or Sun-Thurs)
 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop next generation LED chip technologies for solid state lighting applications and coordinate transfers of these products to production.
  • Lead new product design and development activities, by interacting with marketing, process development, NPI and reliability engineering.
  • Support the tool selection and process validation for a variety of semiconductor singulation and test technologies such as dicing, probe, die inspection, die sorting, etc.
  • Interact with outside vendors as needed to develop and qualify processes and technologies as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to multi-task and organize projects across multiple projects, departments, and organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing (Process and Equipment Specifications and Work Instructions).
  • Strong hardware hands-on experience. Extensive data analysis skills.
  • Self-starter with strong personal work ethic; must have a "whatever it takes" attitude.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to identify manufacturing improvements, manage change, and implement solutions.
  • Able and willing to support 24X7 projects.
  • PhD in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science Engineering or Physical Science with 3 years of experience or MS in these areas with at least 5 years of experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • 3 to 5 years development engineering experience in semiconductor industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of SPC and DOE principles and methods.
  • Experience with databases and data analysis tools (SQL, Access, JMP, Excel, etc.)
