Location: Durham, NC

Schedule: 2nd shift, 1 WE day

Title: Process Development Engineer

GENERAL DECRIPTION:

 Cree is looking for a self-motivated, hands-on, process engineer to become a member of the R & D team responsible for the development, design, and fabrication of LED package solutions for customers. This position will require new process development as well as improvement to existing processes.  The successful candidate will be a resourceful problem solver with the capacity to quickly grasp and resolve a wide range of technical issues through the implementation of practical solutions to complicated problems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct experimental work to improve LED Component performance
  • Monitor the progress, effectiveness and integrity of experiments to ensure goals are met
  • Maintain process equipment and measurement systems
  • Train process technicians
  • Develop, test and document work procedures
  • Interpret results, summarize data and communicate findings to support 24x7 R&D operation

  • Able to adjust to changing priorities and schedules in order to keep projects and commitments on-track
  • Strong attention to detail

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • BS/MS in Ceramic, Materials or Chemical Sciences/Engineering
  • 0-5 years experience in process or materials development
  • Where applicable, recent graduates encouraged to apply
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with strong interpersonal skills

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Expertise in powder materials development, processing, handling and characterization
  • Knowledge of LED sources, packages and materials
  • Experience with databases and data analysis tools (Access, SAS JMP, Excel, etc.).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude/troubleshooting ability
  • Familiarity with phosphors (properties and characterization)
