Summary

Cree is looking for a self-motivated, hands-on, scientist to support the Solid State Lighting Reliability and Characterization Lab. You will support both the high volume manufacturing of solid state lighting solutions as well as participate in the development of new LED-based solid state lighting products and processes. The successful candidate will be a resourceful problem solver with the capacity to quickly grasp and resolve a wide range of technical problems through the implementation of practical solutions to complicated problems. As a member of the Solid State Lighting Development Team, you will interact with a wide range of functional groups including the following: LED Chip and Lamp R&D and Manufacturing, Purchasing, Facilities, Applications, and Marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Document test results to support customer needs.
  • Design and develop test procedures, techniques, and systems to support development of new products and processes.
  • Maintain all test systems in calibrated and operational state.
  • Provide engineering assistance to multiple, cross-functional groups.
  • Perform failure analysis of chips and packages.

Requirements

  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or other technical field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferences

  • Familiarity with III-V device reliability. LEDs preferred.
  • Experience with LED sources and packages/packaging materials.
  • Experience with databases and data analysis tools (SQL, Access, SAS JMP, Excel, etc.)
  • Demonstrated expertise in semiconductor device and/or package failure analysis.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude/troubleshooting ability.
