 Job Description

We are currently accepting online applications for Custodians to fill FUTURE VACANCIES.

The Custodian Drivers are responsible for cleaning buses, trolleys, subway elevated cars, regional rail cars and other vehicles. Additionally, bus custodians move vehicles around the District and surrounding yard areas and occasionally drive vehicles throughout the five-county region. Additional responsibilities include cleaning offices, shop areas, and restrooms, as well as shoveling snow and mowing grass, as needed. A valid Driver's License is required for these positions.

Non-driving Station Custodians are responsible for cleaning subway stations and platforms along the Broad Street Subway and Market Frankford Elevated and Subway/Surface lines. These Custodians use a variety of chemical cleaning agents in performance of duties. A Driver's License is not required for the Station Custodian position.

All positions require the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Custodians also will be required to work extra hours during snow emergencies, shoveling snow and keeping steps and platforms clear.

We are seeking candidates with a high school diploma or GED equivalent and prior paid professional experience in the custodial/janitorial field. Paid mechanical work experience is a plus. The ability to work effectively & efficiently under supervision is required. Candidates selected for further consideration will be asked to complete written tests/assessments, as part of the selection process.

Additionally, you will be afforded free transportation on the SEPTA system. Pay rate starts at approximately $13 per hour and after 7 months of successful employment, the pay rate will increase to approximately $17.35 per hour.
