SEPTA is recruiting for Masons 1st Class on its City and Railroad Divisions. The successful candidates will be proficient in bricklaying, cement finishing, tile setting and wall plastering.

The starting rate of pay for this job is $28.31/hour with an increase to $31.46/hour after one year. Wage rates in the Railroad Division are lower.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Installs brick, terra cotta, terrazzo, tile and building blocks to construct or repair walls, partitions, floors, arches and other structures.

* Lays brick in horizontal rows in designs and shapes. Cuts brick to size with brick hammer when necessary.

* Checks vertical and horizontal alignment of structures with plumb bob and level as work progresses.

* Lays fire brick inside boxes of boilers and forges. Uses high temperature cement, fire clay and ganister. Pours and forms ganister insulation around doors and fire walls.

* Constructs forms; installs shoring in trenches and metal concrete reinforcements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* High school graduate or equivalent.

* Must possess valid driver’s license.

* Must have at least one year of paid work experience in bricklaying, cement finishing, tile setting and wall plastering.

* An associate's Degree in Specialized Technology focused on Masonry/Construction or 4 years formal Masonry/Construction Apprenticeship program, will serve as an equivalent to One year of paid work experience.

* Must successfully complete pre-employment masonry knowledge tests to be considered for this position. Additionally, candidates hired for this position will be required to successfully complete hands-on performance tests to pass their probationary period.
